A Giant Leap of Faith

brandon3Just as Indiana Jones did in the movie “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, Brandon Gaskin, a member of Annistown Road Baptist Church (ARBC), has taken a leap of faith and started a Deaf Ministry at his college, Valdosta State University called Access Worship Night. Tonight was their first time streaming their services over the internet. Brandon attended Berkmar High School and came to Annistown during his Junior year. He attended the youth ministry at ARBC where he was mentored and encouraged to use his talents that God had given him by many of the adult members at ARBC. Brandon was also involved in Jr GBCD over the years and is now the Jr GBCD Coordinator.

Thank you Brandon for taking this leap of faith and using the talents that God has blessed you with and the modern technology to make God’s word accessible in a more open way. Your willingness to be obedient to His call and follow Him is an inspiration to us all!

If you know of any deaf in the area of Valdosta State University, you can have them contact Brandon Gaskin at brandon.gaskin@gbcd.org for more information.

Brandon, keep in mind the following verse … 1 Timothty 4:12 (NIV)
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Tri-State 2013 Donation Letter

Tri-State LogoThe purpose of this post is to ask for you assistance in the work to bring education and leadership training to the deaf leaders across the state of Georgia. Last January 2012, the Tri-State Deaf School of Theology began classes in Georgia. For years, we have been praying that God would bring formal deaf training to develop deaf leadership for our churches in the southeast but especially in the State of Georgia. It will assist in training and developing of deaf leadership. Because of the central location of the Atlanta area campus, it will allow other deaf church leaders from Alabama, parts of South Carolina, and Tennessee to attend as well. Currently there are no post-secondary educational resources specifically focused on deaf leadership in the state of Georgia.

The Tri-State Deaf School of Theology, which is affiliated with Brewton-Parker University, started in 2012 and has been providing college level training to deaf students in Georgia once a month on Saturdays. All classes are taught for the deaf, by deaf professors or professors that are fluent in sign language. Students can choose to take the classes for a certificate, or to earn college level credits. We have taken up the challenge of trying to raise the necessary funds to secure the financial portion of this endeavor.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

1. Communicate this opportunity to those in your community.

2. Encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity.

3. Prayer is needed as we continue to organize and strengthen the program here
in Georgia.

4. Tri-State Georgia needs financial support.

We need to raise between $2,500 to $3,000 for a reserve account to help cover costs for the professor who will lead the Tri-State Classes. The money in the account is used to cover the costs of the class like the professor’s mileage, room and board (when necessary) plus a small token/salary for the time taken to prepare for and teach the class. There are approximately 5 – 6 classes per semester. All money will go directly to The Georgia Baptist Convention (GBC) for this account. Your donation will bring us closer to our goal. You can send your tax deductible donation checks made payable to “Georgia Baptist Convention” and in the memo field include “Tri-State Snellville Campus Deaf School of Theology” to the following address:
